영화 같은 살인자...
대게의 연쇄살인범들은 수사관들과의 긴장감을 즐긴다. 그들과 살인의 단서를 주고 받고 수싸움을 해가며 범행을 지속하려면 보통의 창의성이 없이는 힘들어 보인다.
잘 만들어진 영화 속 범인들이야 수많은 작가들의 고민과 피드백 같은 지원이라도 받지만
현실에서 그런 스마트한 창의성과 극악무도함을 동시에 갖는 게 어디 쉬운가...
그런데...
실화 속의 조디악은 마치 영화화 될때의 구성과 복선을 미리 계산하고 범행을 저지르지 않았나 싶은 생각이 들 정도로 정말 '영화적'인 범행을 저질렀다.
클린트 이스트우드를 서부에서 현재 시점의 인물로 옮겨놓았던 더티하리...
영화적 소재로서 미해결 사건이 주는 치명적 약점은 오히려 시지프 신화의 원형처럼 '도달할 수 없지만 도달하고 싶은 생명력'을 경험하게 하는 전략을 구사해서 극복한다.
워낙 사건 자체도, 기간도 방대했는지라 개인적으로는 쏟아지는 정보를 이해하기도 버거울 정도지만 인물의 심경 만큼은 놓치지 않고 따라가게 해준다.
분명 미해결 사건이지만 영화 속에서 해결 될 것처럼 느껴지고...
거의 이길 뻔한 경기의 재방송을 보면서도 손에 땀을 쥐는 긴장감...그게 바로 이성을 넘어선 무의식 속 생명력의 근원이라고 하면 오바인가?
범행의 완벽함...
수사관들과의 수싸움...
거의 완벽한 심증과 2% 부족한 물증...
쫓는 자의 처절함...
비슷한 소재 때문인지 살인의 추억과 조디악은 많은 부분에서 닮아있다.
소재도 소재지만 데이빗 핀처라는 브랜드 파워가 영화에 주는 기대감은 봉준호라는 이름이 주는 '살인의 추억' 에 대한 기대만큼 강력하다는 점도 닮았다.
단 하나...조디악에 향숙이는 없다.
