얼마전 지나버리긴 했지만
2008년 7월은 매우 역사적 시간이다.
그 날을 기념하지 않을 수 없어 정말 오랜만에 키보드를 두드린다.

2008년 7월은 바로 초자력 무기에 의해 지구의 축이 뒤틀려 5대륙이 바다로 가라앉은 그 해다...왜 하필 이렇게 당장 뽀록날 가까운 미래를 배경으로 삼았을까 싶지만 만들어지던 1978년에 느꼈을 과학발전의 속도감은 딱 30년 후라면 충분히 일어날 수 있는 설정이고도 남음직하다.


소년적 몽상의 절정을 치닫던 1982년
꿈이 하나 생겼다.
코난이 되는 것이었다.

코난이 되고 싶었던 가장 큰 동인은...
판타지였지만 지금 다시봐도 매우 정교한 리얼리티를 바탕으로 하고 있었기 때문에 손에 잡히는, 진짜 코난이라고 몽상을 해도 허무맹랑하지 않은 느낌을 줬기 때문이지 않나 싶다.
정말 저렇게 될 수도 있는 거라고...
충분히 말이 되는 얘기야...
그 때를 대비해 발가락 근육을 단련시켜야 할까를 고민할 정도로...

하지만...
나는 1982년에 이미 소년이라는, 피하고 싶은 진실이 꿈을 짖밟았다.
코난의 지구는 2008년 멸망하고 20년후인 2028년을 배경으로 하고 있다.
불행히도 그 때 나는 코난은 커녕, 많이 양보해서 다이스선장도 될 수 없다.
나는 라오박사와 인더스트리아 위원회의 노인들 세대였던 거다.
아...우울하게 지진으로 무너져가는 인더스트리아에 남아서 라나의 손을 잡고 가식적인 안타까움을 날리는 코난을 배웅하며 손흔들기 싫은데...

2008년...아직 지구는 건재하다.
차라리 다행이다.
