복고문화의 정체

80년대 초, 초등학교 저학년이었지만 나름 앞선 유머를 구사하려는 욕망이 컸던 나의 눈을 번쩍 뜨게 했던 책이 한권 있었다.
'뽀빠이 아저씨 시금치 대작전'
이상용이라는 사람이 왜 뽀빠이 아저씨인지도 미스터리였지만 일단 그 안에 있는 유머들로 무장하자 친구들 사이에서 바로 유머가 레벨업되는 효과를 거두었다.
그런데...
그 중에서 도저히 이해못할 유머들이 있었는데...
예를 들면...
모택동-못된 똥
아이젠하워-아 이젠 하워(hour)가 없구나
아이젠하워만 해도 어디선가 들어본 기억이 나는 듯 했으나 모택동은 누구란 말인가...
아무리 앞선 감각을 다듬어도 이해할 수 없는 코드에 가끔 당황...

80년대 말이 되자 TV와 영화엔 검정교복과 세일러복으로 무장한 개그와 드라마들이 하나 둘 등장했는데...하지만 그들의 문화는 내가 기억하던 것과는 확실히 다르다.
검정교복입고 트위스트를 추는 개그맨의 디테일은 공감이라기 보다는 이해의 차원이다.
그런 복고문화는 2000년대 초까지 근 10여년 넘게 그 생명력을 이어갔다. 물론 나에게도 익숙한 복식이긴 하지만 표현의 방법은 여전히 낯설기만 할 뿐이었다.

2000년대 들어 인터넷문화와 함께 본격적으로 '추억하기'가 하나의 문화포멧으로 자리잡는다. 그러면서 새롭게 등장한 복고 트랜드가 있었으니...

80년대 추억의 신호탄이자 종합선물세트 '품행제로'

인터넷의 시작과 함께 사회생활을 시작했던 세대들이 그들의 추억인 80년대를 디테일하게 복기하기 시작한 것...
확실히 80년대는 70년대는 물론 지금과 큰 차이가 없는 90년대와는 다른 '어색한 자유화'와 국적불명의 로맨티시즘으로 점철된 묘한 문화를 가진 세대였다.

방송의 복고 트랜드도 점점 알듯 말듯 했던 70년대 이전이 아니라 연출자가 학창시절을 거쳐왔음을 명백히 알 수 80년대로 넘어왔다. 거기다 방송을 주름잡고 있는 진행자들도 죄다 그 세대이니 그 궁합이야...

72년생 70년생 71년생

가끔 방송을 보면 저런 걸 요즘 학생들이 이해할까 싶은 아이템이 마치 니들 이거 다 알아...혹은 이건 기본적으로 알고 있어야지라고 우기고 있는 듯 싶기도 하다.

2000년대 복학생인데 그의 문화는 80년대를 추억하는 90년대 복학생이다.

젊은 애들을 이해 못해서 기성세대가 겪는 세대차이가 아니라
PD 형, 오빠들을 이해 못해서 애들이 겪어야 하는 세대차이...

이 프로 애들이 이해할까? 혹시 주말 버라이어티에 30-40대를 적극 끌어들이려는 전략?

왜 그렇겠는가...
눈치챘겠지만 바로 당대 문화생산의 주류세대가 겪어온 추억이기 때문이겠다.
80-90년대 작가,PD,감독,가수,연예인들이 겪은 추억은 60-70년대이고
90-2000년대는 70-80년대이다.

그렇담...그 수순으로
2010년대에는 90년대를 추억하는 트랜드들로 가득하겠다.
아니 요즘은 발빠르게 벌써 90년대를 추억하고 있기도 하는 듯 싶다.
결국 우리나라의 주류문화의 추억과 복고란 30대-40대초반의 추억이란 얘기...
거기다 그 중심 세대인 60년대말 70년대 초에 태어난 세대가 인구수로도 최고라니 얼마나 시끄럽겠어...

한가지 변화의 조짐은...
이 시끄러운 세대는 앞 세대에 비해 나이와 함께 자신들 문화를 끌고 가는 듯 싶다.
이들이 50대...60대가 되어도 여전히 사회 한 구석에는 80,90년대를 추억하는 문화와 함께 계속 시끄러울 듯한 예감이 엄습한다.
뭐 나야 좋다.
