소설보다 이상한_Stranger Than Fiction.2006

소설이나 영화에 깊이 몰입 했었던 사람들이라면 자신의 행동을 스스로 나래이션한 기억이 있을 지도 모르겠다.
마치 자기 자신을 소설이나 영화장면의 한 맥락처럼 주절주절 거리는...

자신을 객관화하는 건 성숙함을 위해서는 꼭 이뤄내야하는 계명 같이 명언집 여기저기에 묘사되 있기는 한데...보통 우리가 저런 나레이션을 깔 때 우리를 객관화 시키기 힘들다.

그런데 그런 나레이션을 누가 대신 해준다면...그리고 내가 그걸 들을 수 있다면이라는 발직한 상상으로 영화가 진행된다.

객관적이고 전지적인 화자가 있다면 그는 분명 인물에 대한 묘사 의도나 노리고자 하는 결론이 있을 것이다. 우리의 주인공 그런 나레이터를 갖는 댓가로 자신의 운명이 하나의 거대한 테마를 위한 구조 속에 놓여 있다는 걸 알게 된다.
반복적이고 지극한 일상성에 사는 방향성에 무감각해진 그에게 그 나레이션은 선물이자 동시에 형벌인 양날의 검이 되고 마는 셈이다.

거기다 차라리 그런 비현실적 일이 벌어지는 특별한 사람이라고 해버리면 편할텐데 주인공의 나레이터는 신이 아니라 현실의 인간이다. 그리고 영화는 이 황당한 고리를 풀기 위해 겹겹의 미스터리를 장치해 둔다.

글쎄...나레이터가 소설적 화자라서 그런 지 이 영화 상당히 많은 곳을 튀어 다닌다. 뛴 게 아니라 튄다. 마치 소설가들이 영화 시나리오를 쓰면 '좀 영화적 호흡으로 쓰란 말야'라는 핀잔을 듣게 되 듯...
개인적으로는 뭐랄까 재기발랄한 판타지와 진지한 드라마에 대한 기대를 동시에 맛보게 해주기는 하나 어느 쪽 맛도 아닌 밋밋함이 뒤끝을 남기게 만들긴 했다.
소설보다는 영화같고
영화보다는 소설같은
그런 이상한 영화다.
